Fear of suffering had caused many to retreat to a faith that existed only in words, not in deeds. Real Christianity was vanishing, either from Christians being hunted down and killed or scared into silence. Then God used James to write a letter focusing on authentic Christianity. A letter designed to prod real faith out of hiding. A letter today that encourages and demands Christians to be practical in their living. In studying the book of James we want to answer the question, what does a practical Christian look like? Many beliefs through the ages have identified Christianity as a religious list of do's and don'ts, taboos, bans and prohibitions. The letter of James models for us a complete wardrobe for Christian behavior.
